By registering your new Nintendo game system – including DSi XL, DSi, DS Lite and Wii – at the Club Nintendo web site, you automatically get a free 90 days added to the 1-year warranty on your hardware.
Registration at Club Nintendo is free and you’ll need the serial number of your game system. Note that you do not need to visit Club Nintendo to actually register your hardware for the initial warranty (that’s apparently done at the “point of sale,” at least according to Nintendo’s web site).
You’ll also need to do it within that first year of ownership.
If you do register with Club Nintendo, you might as well go through your Nintendo game library and register all of your products and take all of the surveys. They do get a bit repetitious but you can earn free Nintendo stuff and, at the end of an annual cycle, you can earn a free gift.
The warranty extension has been in effect for quite a while at Club Nintendo but when Microsoft and Sony are giving extensions after hardware issues or making you purchase extensions, it worth nothing that one company is giving them away for free.
