Earlier today Epic Games debuted Project Sword to the world. Project Sword is being developed for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad with full Game Center functionality. The most impressive thing about this Unreal Engine 3 powered game is its graphics. They are unlike anything seen before on an iDevice. The game won’t be out until the end of the year, but a demo called Epic Citadel on the App Store now. Epic Citadel focuses on Project’s Sword’s enviornment.
When I mean demo, I mean a tech demo. There isn’t any combat in Epic Citadel. You just roam around the world looking at the pretty scenery. The file is about 80MB and is worth the extra downloading time. There’s only a couple options in the demo. You can walk around and explore yourself, or take a guided tour. Movement is done by two virtual analog sticks. The left controls movement and the right stick controls the camera.
I downloaded Epic Citadel on my third generation iPod Touch. It runs smoothly for the most part, but there were some slight hesitations. Then again this is just a tech demo and is not the final product. It’s worth checking out if you have a few minutes to spare.
