Take-Two Interactive confirmed speculations that L.A. Noire would be delayed until the company’s fourth quarter 2010 fiscal year. In layman’s terms, L.A. Noire will be out during the first half of 2011.
L.A. Noire has been plagued with delays ever since it was first announced. At the end of August, statements to analysts confirmed L.A. Noire’s delay. Take-Two was reported to have not yet shown the game to retailers. Evan Wilson, an analyst from Pacific Crest Securities, said Take-Two’s current management has problems when it comes to releasing titles within its initial release windows.
“We continue to have low confidence that management has any idea about when its games will actually be released and believe the confidence that it displays to investors is misplaced,” Wilson wrote in a statement obtained by Gamespot.
During Take-Two’s third quarter 2010 earnings call, management admitted it has had problems with release dates, but stressed that delays are necessary to put out the best game possible. Take-Two pointed to the success of Red Dead Redemption as proof of the kind of quality work its developers can create when given enough time. Take-Two’s chairman Strauss Zelnick also took time to thank each development studio for the hard work that helped raise Take-Two’s revenue by nearly $259 million.
