Red Dead Redemption is a very successful game. It is primarily responsible for Take-Two’s $341 million revenue for its third quarter of 2010. Compare that to just under $95 million the previous year and you’ve got a $259 million increase. That’s huge. Red Dead has sold 6.9 million copies since its release and continues to be supported through downloadable content packs. A game this big has to get a sequel and its name may already be spoiled.

MCV was talking to an “employee of a services provider” over one too many drinks when they dropped the bombshell. The source mentioned they were doing some work on Red Dead Revolution. MCV says the person quickly downplayed their statement after it was to late. Now everyone on the internet is going to know.

We’re not surprised a sequel to Red Dead Redemption is being planned. Revolution is a nice fit for the Red Dead franchise. Staying true the series three word titles will definitely help with brand recognition. Now all we have to do is wait for an official confirmation. Chances are that won’t be happening anytime soon.

We probably won’t be following the Marston family anymore. Rockstar always chooses a new lead character in its sequels, but they are always compelling. Rockstar could always break tradition and make Red Dead Revolution a prequel. We could play as John Marston during his outlaw days right up to the point when the government got to him. This is still all speculation because after all, a drunk person is the source.
