PAX 2010 is starting to wrap up. Before the show waves goodbye, Gearbox has some good news for those of us who are still roaming in Borderlands. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced that Borderlands will be getting a free patch on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. This patch will address some balancing issues and raise the level cap from 61 to 69. It will become available in October.
Gearbox chose to increase the level in Borderlands due to a couple issues. First, Gearbox didn’t want to increase the level cap through paid downloadable content. If it did, that means a player would have to buy all of the previous DLC in Borderlands to reach level 69. This way, everyone can be on a level playing field. Secondly, Gearbox didn’t want to increase the level cap to 71 because so many people paid for the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC for that feature. The studio felt 11 levels was too high, but 5 levels was too low. The final decision was to raise the level cap by 8, making level 69 the new goal to reach in Borderlands.
The next piece of Borderlands DLC will be called Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution. It is scheduled to be released on September 28, 2010 for $10 or 800 Microsoft Points.
