PopCap Games’ incredibly unique take on tower defense, Plants vs. Zombies hits the marketplace this week for 1,200 Microsoft Points ($15).
While battles such as ninjas vs. pirates have captivated us for years, PopCap asked what would happen if you pit flesh-eating undead against common household plants. The result? Fun for everybody. This game has drawn thousands of accolades as a PC title and now hits XBLA with 50 levels, 20 mini-games and of course, Xbox Achievements.
If fighting off zombies with sunflowers is not your cup of fertilizer, you can rock out with Dance:It’s Your Stage. This music game is 800 MP ($10) and supports either a standard controller or the Dance Mat. Multiplayer includes up to four players and the prerequisite online leaderboards.
I understand that may not be enough rock for you. Then you’ll be interested in two new demos: DJ Hero 2 and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. DJ Hero 2 features 80 new original mixes so step up to the turntable. Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is Activision’s latest attempt to reinvigorate the franchise largely responsible for the music game craze. An all-new “Quest Mode” enters the game now. Try out the demo, see if you still count yourself among “those who are about to rock.”
The hits keep coming as Rock Band gets eight tracks from hip hop’s legendary Snoop Dogg. They include his recent hits “Sensual Seduction” and “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, as well as older jams such as “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head.” Snoop is the first rapper to provide DLC for Rock Band. The whole package is 1,080 MP, with individual tracks available for 160 MP.
Strategy fans could find themselves with a new addiction as the demo for RUSE is now playable. As you might have gleaned from the title, the game is as much as about bluffing as about fighting. Tactics such as radio silence and camouflage help ensure your enemies won’t see it coming.
EA has all the RPG action you could want with add-ons for megahits Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age Origins. Mass Effect 2′s latest add-on challenges you to enter the Lair of the Shadow Broker for 800 MP. In Dragon Age Origins, you get to go on a Witch Hunt for 560 MP.
Resident Evil is ready for moviegoers in its first 3D installment, so The Deal of the Week is discounts on Resident Evil 5 add-ons. The Untold Stories Bundle is 560 MP ($7), while Desperate Escape, Lost in Nightmares and the Versus Mode add-on are all 240 MP ($3).
