Mindjack, a first-person shooter that allows you to hack into other people’s brains, has been delayed until 2011.
The Square Enix project is being developed by Feelplus, which brought us Lost Odyssey and N3 II: Ninety-Nine Nights. The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title was originally scheduled for an October 2010 release.
There’s no better way to get lost in the shuffle than to release a game during the holiday season, though. Call of Duty, Fable and Need for Speed are all getting new installments and those are just a few of the games battling for players’ attention this Fall.
Square Enix reps confirmed the delay to Siliconera.
This seems like the right move. Halo:Reach, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty:Black Opsare all coming soon making it a bad time to release a first-person shooter with comparatively little publicity behind it. The concepts in Mindjack give it a chance to offer a new take on a very well-worn genre. I’d hate to see it get washed away in the sea of Grade-A titles about to hit store shelves.
Square Enix didn’t give a firm date but Gamefly and Amazon are both listing it as a January 2011 release.
