We already know NIS loves releasing ports of existing games. Loves. I mean, look what they’ve done with Disgaea! (Not to mention Disgaea 2, Phantom Brave and Rhapsody.) So, unsurprisingly, another adaptation of an existing game was announced at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show. Surprising, it’s an MMO adaptation. Gamania and NIS are working together on Phantom Brave Online.
Phantom Brave Online isn’t going to be a port. Rather, Gamania will be using Ivoire, the world in which Phantom Brave is set, and some concepts from the original game in the online adaptation. I’ll bet some familiar characters will be returning too. Perhaps people will be chromas, like Marona.
Gamania and NIS didn’t release any screenshots, story or character information. Basically, Gamania just announced that the game was being developed and should be released by the end of 2011. It’ll definitely be released in Japan, but a worldwide release hasn’t been confirmed. Gamania is supposedly trying to expand to North America and Europe though, and a game like Phantom Brave Online would have a built-in fanbase.
