Pokemon Black DSMedia Create has the latest Japanese game sales figures, and it reveals that one version of the latest Pokemon DS game is doing slightly better than the other. Combined, Pokemon Black and White‘s sales easily take the top spot. Even if they weren’t combined, they’d be in the top two slots. But if they were split up, Pokemon Black would win. 89,000 more copies were sold of Black than of White. 1,323,000 copies of Pokemon Black and 1,234,000 copies of Pokemon White are being played this weekend.

The news is hardly surprising. With Pokemon, one version always does better than the other. For example, Pokemon SoulSilver outsold HeartGold. And Pokemon Diamond outsold Pokemon Pearl. This is due, in part, to the version specific legendary included, though I’m sure the title also is slightly influencial as well.

I guess this means more people wanted the legendary Reshiram than the legendary Zekrom. Reshiram is the white fox-dragon pokemon only available in Pokemon Black, and Zekrom is the black dinosaur-dragon pokemon only in Pokemon White. I know I picked up SoulSilver because I wanted Lugia and Diamond because I wanted Dialga.

  1. You got your legendaries mixed up at the end of this article.

"Reshiram is the white fox-dragon pokemon only available in Pokemon White, and Zekrom is the black dinosaur-dragon pokemon only in Pokemon Black."

    Reshiram is in Black
    Zekrom is in White

So yes more people want Reshiram

  2. You are absolutely right. My mistake. I think my subconscious grouped together the black legendary with the black game and white legendary with the white game. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll fix it right now.
