At New York Comic-Con earlier this year, Marvel showed off a trailer for X-Men Arcade. This game is nearly a carbon copy of the coin-op version so many of us are familiar with. The crowd still went wild at the idea of being able to relive this classic game from the comfort of their homes. Not much has been said about the game since, but Konami told Eurogamer the game’s release is much sooner than we expected.
Xbox Live Arcade will get X-Men Arcade first on Wednesday December 15, 2010 for an undisclosed price. If you were thinking about downloading this game on PSN, I hope you have patience. X-Men Arcade is a timed Xbox 360 exclusive. The PS3 won’t be getting the game until February 2011. By the time it’s released on PSN, the thrill could be gone. Owners of both consoles will probably fork over the Microsoft Points out of sheer excitement. This is one of the perks Microsoft gets when it throws its money around.
X-Men Arcade won’t have a HD makeover like so many other games these days. Visually it will remain unchanged, but it will adapt modern features such as six player online co-op and a widescreen setting. The same characters from the original game return. You can pick between Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm and Dazzler (*shudder*).
Update: Looks like the PS3 delay information is incorrect. PlayStation’s Twitter account says, “Despite what you may have read, @Konami’s X-Men Arcade will be hitting the PSN next Tuesday, Dec 14, for $9.99.”
