PlayStation Plus members have a lot of benefits. Granted, most of the incentives come in the form of free games, but what else do you want from a videogame service? The way I see it, if you’re willing to spend $60 a year on Xbox Live and get virtually no free games, you can spend $50 a year on PlayStation Plus and get free stuff every other week. Once 2011 rolls around, Sony will be updating the PS Plus section of the PlayStation Store with three free games to ring in the new year.
There won’t be anymore PlayStation Store updates until January 4, 2011. That’s why yesterday’s update so was massive. Once the store is updated again. PS Plus subscribers will find the PSone classic Spyro the Dragon to be free. Other free offerings include the multiplayer title Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West ($14.99 value), and a PSP minis title called Pipe Madness. Pipe Madness will be exclusively available for PS Plus subscribers for two weeks after release.
A free PS3 theme called Underwater Disco will also be available.
January 4 will be the day when certain content will be taken down. If you don’t download the DC Universe Online beta before then, you’ll miss out. At least the full game comes out on January 11. Discounts on Dead Nation, Sonic 4 Episode 1, Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Twisted Metal 2 will disappear as well.
