Rayman Origins was one of the most artistically impressive games that debuted at E3 2010. The game is being created by just five individuals at Ubisoft. It was originally supposed to be released on XBLA and PSN in time for the holidays, but Joystiq has learned Rayman Origins has been delayed.
Ubisoft hasn’t made an official announcement about Rayman‘s delay, but it doesn’t really need to. The PlayStation Store won’t update again until January 4, 2011, so it’s clear Rayman Origins won’t be out in 2010.
Rayman: Origins will be released in episodes for a couple reasons. Episodes let the creators take more time to fully realize an idea, and it’s cheaper than making a full retail game.
Considering the size of the team involved, a delay is totally understandable. Rayman: Origins looks like a gorgeous 2D game with a lot of personality. Had it been released this year, it would have certainly been on my top three list of most graphically artistic games along with Kirby’s Epic Yarn.
Ubisoft is shaping up to have a big 2011. Besides Rayman Origins, Ubisoft also has I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Beyond Good and Evil and From Dusk slated for a 2011 release. Make no mistake, there are even more games than that on Ubisoft’s table next year.
