Warzone Earth screenshotIf you have any love of strategy titles such as Halo Wars or Civilization Revolution, tower defense is probably a genre you can get into.

In Tower defense games place you at fixed points on a map and challenge you to hold your ground while enemies attack. In my opinion, tower defense is one of the most addictive game genres a lot of people don’t know about.

Poland-based game developer 11 Bit Studios Poland-based game developer is flipping the typical tower defense formula by making you the wave of enemies attacking the tower. In upcoming title Anomaly: Warzone Earth, you command an elite squad investigating reports of an alien invasion in Baghad. Spoiler Alert: There are aliens and they’re not very happy to see your squad. After all, if there weren’t any aliens, we wouldn’t have a game to tell you about here.

It’s up to you to choose the proper path, vehicles and special skills to get the job done. Sure, you can take that shortcut but expect it to be a chokepoint filled with tough enemies. Of course, you’ve got some serious backup. The Commander is a special hero that you can deploy on foot, unleashing powerups that can turn the tide of battle. Among his powers are a smoke screen to keep you hidden from the enemy and a repair field that heals your troops. Squad management adds multiple layers of tactical intrigue. As in your typical tower defense game, the defenders are at fixed points. Once you stroll into their line of sight, it’s on.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth is slated for release in early 2011 for PCs, iPad, iPhone and Mac.
