If you were watching Super Bowl XLV today (February 6, 2011), then you probably caught a very interesting commercial for Sony’s latest device. Not the NGP, the Xperia Play! Yes, the PlayStation smartphone made its debut, though the commercial didn’t really tell us too much. It just confirmed that it’s a Sonny Ericsson PlayStation phone with an Android OS.
Here, watch the Xperia Play ad for yourself.
That robot’s thumbs are creepy! Anyways, back to the phone.
The official Xperia Play reveal won’t come until next week. If you want to see that, then you need to head to Sony Ericsson’s official Facebook page. If you “like” the page, you can access a link that invites you to an “Android is ready to play…” event page that gives the exact announcement dates and times so you can be sure to be on Facebook for the official announcement. It says there that the North American reveal will happen February 13 at 10am PST.
Big news! I’m going to guess and say it’ll probably have a $299.99 price point. You know, something to keep it competitive with the iPhone. Don’t feel bad if you can’t afford the Xperia Play when it first comes out though. Remember that Sony is bringing the PlayStation Suite to all smartphones and tablets running Android 2.3 or better, so you’ll still be able to enjoy PlayStation games on your existing devices.
