Dead or Alive DimensionsFinally, Dead or Alive fans will get to enjoy Kasumi’s bouncy, perky…uhhh…moves in glorious 3D in the upcoming Dead or Alive Dimensions. The game is set for a North American release for the Nintendo 3DS on May 21, 2011. Developed by Team Ninja, Dead or Alive Dimensions is chock-full of features and 25 playable characters that will keep your little thumbs twitching in combat for months.

One feature includes a special stage (apparently inspired by Metroid: Other M) in which Ridley goes berserk on all fighters present, while another allows you to use the touch screen to display the different combos each fighter can use. You can then learn the combos and execute them yourself or simply tap the touch screen to set them off.

And for the first time, you’ll get to see every character who has ever been in the Dead or Alive series, via the Chronicle Mode, one of 12 modes available. Chronicle Mode is essentially a recap of the first four games and follows the stories of various characters.

Dead or Alive Dimensions will be using the 3DS’s StreetPass and SpotPass features in new ways. StreetPass will determine your play style, create a bot version of you, then pit your bot against potential challengers who are passing by. Admittedly I don’t quite understand the appeal of having a bot version of yourself fight others, but hey to each his or her own.

Meanwhile, you can download up to 34 new costumes via SpotPass. The costumes will be distributed from May 24-June 26, 2011 but if you don’t get them all in time, you’ll get a second chance as they’ll be redistributed from June 28-July 31, 2011. You can also collect figurines via SpotPass, though you have to first unlock them via Throwndown mode.
