Firemint’s Real Racing 2 HD received an update that lets you play the game with two displays. The first display is the iPad 2 and the second is a 1080p HD display (aka your television). All you need is the Apple Digital AV Adapter and a spare HDMI cable to experience the full screen fun.
Usually when you connect the iPad 2 to a HD display, the display just mirrors what you’re doing on the iPad 2. With the Real Racing 2 HD update, the actual racing is done on the big screen while the iPad 2 features additional visuals. You’ll see an outline of the race track, lap time, track position and speed on the iPad 2. You’ll also see some of those features on the big screen too.
Even while tethered with the HDMI cable, the iPad 2 still allows motion controls that are required to control the cars. You can also unplug the HDMI cable without restarting the game. A black screen may appear briefly, but the game will resume shortly afterwards. Firemint doesn’t recommend unplugging the HDMI cable while participating in multiplayer races because the races will not pause in this case.
The Apple digital AV adapter sells for $39.
