The contents of Sony’s Welcome Back program for PSN and Qriocity users has gone live in the United States. To refresh, Sony is giving us a choice to download two free PS3 and PSP games. That’s four games combined. We’re also getting 30 days of PlayStation Plus and Qriocity service. If you currently subscribe to PS Plus, you’ve gotten a 60 service extension at no extra cost. Current Qriocity subscribers are getting an additional 30 days of service.
There are also 100 free items available in PlayStation Home. The free content can be found at a kiosk in Home’s Central Plaza.
Redeeming your free games could be a tedious process because everyone is trying to do this at the same time. You may encounter several errors while trying to access and navigate around the PlayStation Store. Once you get in, you’ll see the Welcome Back promotional graphic on the right side of the storefront. Clicking on that will bring you to a screen where you have to download an item that will give you access to the free games. For example you’ll see items called “PS3 Game 1 and PS3 Game 2.” You can’t choose your free games until you download these items. Once they’re downloaded, you can go back and choose from two of the five available games.
- Dead Nation
- Super Stardust HD
- Wipeout HD + Fury
The same steps have to be completed to download two PSP games.
- ModNation Racers
- Pursuit Force
- Killzone Liberation
It’s recommended you start the download process for each game right away. If you don’t, you won’t find the games in your download list, and you won’t be able to reclaim the Welcome Back program again. If you find yourself unable to find the games you selected, you have to go through a few extra steps to start the downloads.
Here are the steps:
- From the XMB, go to account management
- Go to transaction management
- Go to services list
- Go to SCEA Promotions
- Select the game and download
Update: There’s one thing I forgot to mention. There are also three free movie rentals to be had for this weekend. They are for Ghostbusters, Bad Boys and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Thanks Sony?
