Suddenly and without much warning, Game Republic has closed its doors. You may remember Game Republic from developing games such as Folklore, two Genji titles and Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom. None of those games were critically acclaimed or best sellers. This has likely contributed to Game Republic’s sudden closure.
Reports started coming in this week about Game Republic’s offices suddenly closing and being up for rent. Game Republic’s Japanese website is also non-existent at this time. The blog of Yoshiki Okamoto, the CEO of Game Republic has also been shut down.
Though it hasn’t been confirmed, rumors suggest Okamoto owed a lot of money that stemmed from loans and has left Japan as a result.
What really went down at Game Republic is all a big mystery at this point.
