Well here’s a little nugget of Vita goodness for you – you’ll lose your save games for games that don’t save to memory cards. Which also means you can’t download save files for those games from the internet or share them with friends. Yes, the Vita games that come on a card will be just like GBA, DS or 3DS cartridges. This also provides some interesting insight to the games that require a memory card inserted into the Vita.
Those Vita games can’t be played without a memory card. If you don’t have one, it just isn’t going to happen for you. Sony says this is because those games will gave extra content or Live Area requirements which will need the extra space. So it’s going to be either or people, and the decision is out of your hands.
Fortunately, for those who aren’t jazzed about buying Vita memory cards, there are only a few launch titles that are going to require them.
- Dream Club Zero
- Disgaea 3 Return
- Hot Shots Golf 6
- Monster Raider
- Ridge Racer
Of course, that also means those are the only games that are now guaranteed to have extra content released later.
The issue of saving and save file management isn’t a huge deal. Well, having to buy the official Vita memory card will be troublesome, especially if they’re excessively overpriced, but for the most part it’s a non-issue. While the PSP save system was handy, especially if you liked to keep backups of your saved games, people have been getting by with saves locked to particular cartridges for years and are used to having to buy special memory cards that are only good for one system.
