As promised, the debut trailer for Grand Theft Auto V was released today. It’s almost a minute and half long and it doesn’t do much to clue us in on what the game’s plot will be. We can say with certainty that Rockstar is taking us back to the California inspired setting that was introduced in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. All in all, it looks like a GTA game.
Based on the trailer’s narrator, GTA V will star a man who moved to the coast to start over. He says he wants to retire from “that line of work.” Based on what we know about GTA games as a whole, this guy was a pretty bad dude at one point. He wants to start a family now, but we know he’ll get sucked into his old life throughout the course of the game.
Here’s where things get interesting. The trailer hints at an economic downturn. A house is shown being put up for sale, and people have resorted to living on the street in shanty towns. My guess is our anti-hero was hit by the depression as well, and has to go back to his old ways to provide for his family.
This is all speculation for now, but check out the trailer below and turn your own detective vision on.
