Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 logo As expected, Activision is going to make a ton of money off Modern Warfare 3. The publisher raised its financial outlook for the rest of the year under the assumption Modern Warfare 3 and Skylanders: Spryo’s Adventure would sell exceptionally well. Spryo is doing just fine, but MW3 is firmly in record-breaking territory. In one day, MW3 made over $400 million and sold over 6.5 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom.

Anyone that thinks the Call of Duty franchise is losing steam would be dead wrong. This is the third time in three years a Call of Duty game has broken the record for the most successful launch of any entertainment product. It started with MW2 and its first day sales of $310 million, followed by $360 million for Black Ops.

Activision is going to make even more money Call of Duty Elite subscriptions. In fact, the service is so popular, it has been crashing servers since launch. At $49.99 a year, CoD Elite is a full blown money maker.

Next year, another CoD game will be released. Can Activision make it four in a row?
