As the PSP creeps ever closer to its inevitable end, Sony still attempts to do little things to encourage people to pick up games for the system. It doesn’t try to extend its lifespan or make its demise more comfortable with really awesome, last minute games. Instead, it releases dual packs of existing games at budget prices. The next round, which will be released in January 2012, includes a Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and Twisted Metal: Head-On pack, a Patapon and Loco Roco pack and a Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee and Hot Shots Tennis: Get a Grip pack.
What’s surprising is that these dual packs aren’t UMD exclusives. You can get them in an actual store or download them from the PlayStation Store. So if you plan to get a Vita, you can still get one of these packs and then download/play it on your new system.
What is a bit unexpected is the timing. You’d think that Sony would have wanted to get these out earlier. You know, maybe in November, early December. That way, they would have been around for the 2011 holiday shopping season. Quite a few stores had PSP deals on Black Friday, and a $14.99 dual pack like one of these three would have been pretty attractive.
As for price, $14.99 isn’t too bad. I was checking GameStop and most of the games in the new dual packs alone are between $6.99 and $9.99 used. So it isn’t like you’re overpaying if you decide to get a dual pack when they come out next month.
