DC’s most popular superheroes are stepping away from the more serious atmosphere of DC Universe Online in favor of the world of LEGO. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes was announced today for a summer 2012 release. As with just about all LEGO videogames, expect to see this one grace several consoles including the PC, DS, 3DS and Vita.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will bring together Batman, Robin, Superman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern as they protect Gotham City from the Joker and Lex Luthor. The Gotham City setting is probably why this game is a part of the LEGO Batman series and not just called LEGO DC Super Heroes.

As an added bonus, we’ll be given the opportunity to fly around in the Batwing and possibly run over bad guys in the Batmobile.

It also appears that we’ll be able to play as heroes such as Superman. Some of the new powers LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will entertain us with includes heat vision, super-breath and flight.

The typical LEGO gameplay should return such as building things and solving puzzles. It’s probably more of the same, but these LEGO games are always fun.
