The Sims 3: Showtime expansion stars Katy Perry

Not a fan of shameless celebrity endorsements? Well then, you may want to turn away. EA has jumped on the Katy Perry bandwagon and is officially welcoming her into The Sims 3. When The Sims 3: Showtime expansion appears on March 6, 2012, you’ll be able to pick up a Katy Perry Collector’s Edition for $49.99. Yes, that’s $49.99 for an expansion pack that will require a $29.99 base game to play. Blame the price on the star power.

As you can tell from the name, The Sims 3: Showtime is about making sims famous entertainers. Think of it as the modern version of The Sims: Superstar. There are new jobs, social interactions, venues and you can even import other players’ celebrity sims or send your own sims to perform in their games. The Sims 3: Showtime Katy Perry Collector’s Edition is unique in that it includes a Katy Perry sim, more clothing and hairdos, more themed items, an extra stage and a poster.

This isn’t the first time Katy Perry’s found a place for herself in video games. Her music appeared in Just Dance 2 and Just Dance 3, and actually featured quite prominently in the ads for Just Dance 3. Look for her in The Sims 3: Showtime advertising as well. EA has also confirmed that she may be consulted for future The Sims 3 content.

If you aren’t a fan of Katy Perry, don’t worry. You can get a basic version of The Sims 3: Showtime that doesn’t have her sim or any of her content for $39.99.
