Corporate VP of Microsoft’s Consumer Media Technology Group, Amir Majidimehr, revealed in an AVS Forum post that a software update for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player was (now is) released on May 15, 2007.

From Majidimehr’s post:

“It is my pleasure to let you all know that the HD DVD update for Xbox 360 is slated for release on 5/15… So when you wake up in the morning, you should be able to upgrade your software. And me free from telling you when are going to get it. Hope you all download it and provide feedback on what you think!”

Majidimehr’s typos aside, the update will fix audio issues, allow all audio to output as DTS 1.5Mbps, DD 640Kps and WMAPro, disable the Night Mode and fix a few disc incompatibilities. According to Xbox360 Fanboy, you will be prompted to in stall the when a disc is put into the drive.

The external Xbox 360 HD DVD drive is currently available and retails for $199.99.
