Prospects of a new Xbox in 2012 gets shot down by Microsoft

Over the past week, there were a couple rumors that suggested the next iteration of the Xbox was going to be revealed this year. A source from IGN pointed towards an E3 reveal with an eventual release at the end of 2013. While this may still be the case, Microsoft France Marketing Director Cedrick Delmas told French website Le Point we shouldn’t expect a new console from Microsoft in 2012.

Eurogamer translated one of Delmas’ statements as,”We’re in an industry that talks a lot, that likes telling stories. I am not convinced that things will happen this year. The Xbox 360′s cycle is not over at all. The proof is that we haven’t price cut this year.”

I don’t think many people expected Microsoft to release a new Xbox this year. However, there is still a chance we’ll a formal announcement at E3 in June.

Delmas said “it’s early to say” when referring to an E3 announcement about a new Xbox. His most definitive statement is translated as, “What’s certain is that there will be nothing new in 2012.”
