If you want Mass Effect 3, you’re going to have to go through Origin. So you may as well cut out the middle man and purchase it directly through EA’s Origin service instead of getting a physical copy from a different store. Trust me, it’s worth it as Origin has the best pre-order incentive available for the game. It’s a copy of another free game. The pre-order game download isn’t just any old game. It’s Battlefield 3.
The $59.99 Windows download, Windows physical copy, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and $79.99 Windows Digital Deluxe Edition all qualify for this deal. All you have to do is place the pre-order through Origin before March 5, 2012 and not already have a digital copy of Battlefield 3. When Mass Effect 3 comes out on March 6, 2012, EA will send you an email telling you how to redeem your copy of Battlefield 3.
You actually get two other, less awesome pre-order items through Origin as well. They’re both guns Shepard can use in the game. One’s a M55 Argus Assault Rifle and the other is a AT-12 Raider Shotgun. They’re not a free game, but at least you’re getting two other goodies for battle.
So, free virtual guns and an extra game. That sure beats the general extra gun and armor DLC pre-order offers from Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop! If you already have the N7 edition pre-ordered someone else, I wouldn’t bother canceling it even if you do want Battlefield 3. The N7 ME3 edition is sold out at some stores.
Update: EA decided to make this a temporary offer. The deal ended February 16, 2012. All people who pre-ordered ME3 from Origin during the time period will receive an email code to download Battlefield 3 after ME3 is released on March 6, 2012.
