Retro City Rampage is almost, finally here! That’s the awesome indie project from new developer Vblank Entertainment. It’s a 2D, retro-fabulous games with all of the perks and joys we expect from modern games, like customization, a huge virtual world, genre-bending and at least 20 hours of entertainment. We’ll still have to wait a few more months until May 2012 for the official release, but at least we now know almost every possible platform will run it. Vblank has confirmed it will appear on the PS3, PS Vita, Wii, Xbox 360 and Windows PC. It’ll be a download for all platforms, so keep an eye on all of the respective online shops.

It;s great news since Retro City Rampage is going to be the kind of game that will keep you busy for a long time. There are six playable characters in an old-school, open world environment. You can take on over 50 missions, go through arcade challenges, customize your character, get new weapons, steal over 40 kinds of vehicles and just enjoy the area and atmosphere. There are even guest star playable characters that have subgames to complete. It will be worth your money.

Prices for the PS3, PSV, Wii and Xbox 360 versions of Retro City Rampage haven’t appeared. The website is taking pre-orders for the Windows PC version for $14.99 right now. All pre-orders include Steam and DRM-free copies of the game, a 10 track soundtrack, instruction manuals, a fake box and label to print out to make your own physical copy of the game and a coupon to use in the Vblank Entertainment shop to get 20% off your shirts, posters or pins.

If only there were a 3DS version! I would have loved to play something like this on the go, but I’m too broke for a Vita. I’m going to cross my fingers and hope it does so phenomenally well that Vblank decides to bring it to the eShop too!
