All this week, Game Freak and the Pokemon Smash show have been hinting at a big announcement that would be made during the February 26, 2012 broadcast. Well, that show just aired in Japan and the announcement was for another Pokemon DS game! Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 have been in development for a while now and it turns out they’ll be released in Japan in June 2012 and in North America sometime after.

This is the first time an entry in the main Pokemon series has been named in such a way. Typically, we see games like Pokemon Blue, Pokemon Gold, Pokemon Diamond and so on. What this means for Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2 is unknown. The Pokemon Smash announcement pretty much just said the games were on the way for the DS and would be released in a few months.

The only other tidbit that came from the announcement were images of the legendary pokemon that will be the stars of Pokemon Black Version 2 and White Version 2. They appear to be modified or evolved versions of Zekrom and Reshiram, the legendaries from Pokemon Black and White.

I have a sneaking suspicion that Pokemon Back Version 2 and White Version 2 will be to Pokemon Black and White as Pokemon Platinum is to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. The same game, only with a few extra pokemon, features, areas and quests.
