We can all stop wondering if The Binding of Issac will ever make its way to the 3DS. It isn’t going to happen because Nintendo feels The Binding of Issac takes things a little too far with its religion-themed story to be a 3DS title.

The Binding of Issac creator Edmund McMillen broke the news on Twitter yesterday.

“Attention: After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3ds,” McMillen tweeted. “As many assumed the reasons were due to the games “questionable religious content”. Thank GOD Steam exists!”

The Binding of Issac is a fairly disturbing game despite its Legend of Zelda-like dungeon crawling. It involves a child who’s trying to escape his homicidal mother. The mother sincerely believes she has to kill Issac in order to make God happy. She’s made to do this based on the orders of a voice in her head she believes to be God.
