Glu Mobile has a new free-to-play game available in Google Play. Samurai vs. Zombies Defense is a tower defense game in many respects, but it’s handled a little differently than what we’re used to seeing. Instead of placing towers in the path of zombies, you control the movements of a samurai that holds off the zombies as they attempt to break through the sacred gate.

Most of the fighting in Samurai vs. Zombies Defense is automated just like in traditional tower defense games. Simply getting close to the zombies will cause the samurai to attack with either his sword or bow. The only direct control you have over attacks comes when initiating special attacks such as a lightning strike or a whirlwind slash.

The so-called towers are in the form of non-playable characters such as a lowly farmer, a bowman, spear warriors and others. These fighters can be summoned after a certain amount of seconds have passed. They can be killed, so it’s best to keep an eye on their health.

There’s also a leveling system in place. Silver coins act as currency that can level up your samurai and your secondary fighters.

Since this is a Glu game, expect ads and some incentive to purchase Glu Credits with real money.
