A lot of people are furious over the ending(s) of Mass Effect 3. One person even went as far as reporting EA and BioWare to the Federal Trade Commission claiming false advertising. I haven’t seen any of the endings and have been trying really hard to avoid any spoilers. When I do make it to the end, I’m confident the ending will not affect me more than Mass Effect 3′s two attempts to kill off my Commander Shepard.
I’m one of the unfortunate Xbox 360 Mass Effect 3 players that managed to keep my own personalized version of Commander Shepard alive since the first game. Thanks to my tremendous admiration for the Mass Effect series, I never changed Shepard. This of course lead to the infamous import bug that stuck me with a Shepard impostor. As if that wasn’t enough, I also experienced a Mass Effect 3 bug that nearly ended my Shepard yet again.
I came across this bug during a story mission. I’m not going to say which mission it was because I don’t want to spoil anything. I will say it was a definitive mission though. During this mission, I returned to the Xbox 360 dashboard right after Mass Effect 3 autosaved my progress. When I returned, my Shepard was replaced by the default Shepard. The default Shepard was wearing regular N7 armor (not the armor I pieced together) and did not have any credits to his name. In my panic, I restarted the mission. Fortunately, this restored my Shepard, but not before losing an entire mission’s worth of progress.
I don’t know if my Shepard’s abilities, decisions or weapons were changed before I started over. All I know is that I never want to experience that again.
It’s time to roll out those patches BioWare.
