There’s very good news for people who enviously gaze upon iOS indie games, but can’t play them. One of the best is coming to PCs. Superbrothers and Capybara created an amazing 2D adventure called Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP last year, and they’re bringing it to computers via Steam this year! It’s one of those games that helped make point-and-click adventures even cooler than they were already. (Which was pretty darn cool!)
Windows gamers will get it first. The official announcement initially said S: S&S EP would be out “before the next dark moon.” Of course, that obscure reference is pretty much for show as the minimalist announcement trailer then said people can buy it from Steam starting on April 16, 2012.
Mac owners will have to wait a little longer for S: S&S EP. The release date hint for that is “before the summer solstice,” which is June 20, 2012. So at worst, you’ll have to wait a little under two months for your version. That’s not too bad.
Either way, Superbrothers has confirmed that it doing its best to make this a perfect port. The only real changes are a new control scheme and some slight graphical tweaking. It’s understandable, since now people are going to have to use a mouse instead of a touch screen and accelerometer to help The Scythian get through her four session adventure. That’s how the game’s story is divided up, in case you didn’t know.
Cabybara Games is going to have a booth at PAX East 2012 this year, which is happening this weekend. Both companies have already commited to bringing S: S&S EP along, so if you’re at the convention April 6-8, 2012, pop by that booth for a good time.
