It’s Father’s Day, which means that off-color neckties and dark pink cardigans will be making their yearly migration from the sales racks to the backs of closets everywhere. This will be my second Father’s Day as a father, and I found myself pondering the age-old question: what would I actually like to get for Father’s Day?
I found myself running through the usual list of selfish toy catalogs: an Xbox360 Elite, the PS3 (I still can’t afford) and one of those green and gold Halo3 wireless headsets. In an industry where cool electronic gadgets abound, finding gift ideas isn’t too hard. Getting your two year-old not to spill juice on said gadgets is the tough part.
I guess what I really want for Father’s Day is the continuing growth of the gaming community. My kids will be starting their rigorous training regiment soon (we’re going to start with Mario and move up) and it’s my sincere hope that by the time they’re old enough to play the new games, the online environment will be less misogynistic and more inclusive to all types of players. Maybe that’s a pipedream but it’s a nice pipedream.

Happy Father’s Day guys.
