Time for PS3 and PSP owners’ wake up call! Tomorrow is a very important day, as a piece of PlayStation history arrives on the PlayStation Store. Sony has finally decided everyone is worthy of a digital copy of Legend of Dragoon, one of the best PS1 RPGs ever. Yes, it truly is a PSone Classic and now you’ll be able to download and play it pretty much everywhere.

Legend of Dragoon is a turn-based game about characters who carry within them Dragoon Spirits. These each have the abilities of ancient dragons and allow the characters to use different skills, magic and even transform into powered-up Dragoon forms. As usual, there’s a young man who’s searching for revenge. In this case it’s Dart. he’s trying to find and defeat a Black Monster that killed both of his parents and his hometown. Dart just can’t catch a break, as Legend of Dragoon begins with his new hometown being destroyed by a rebel faction called Sandora and its dragon, with his childhood friend/romantic interest Shana being kidnapped. Shana isn’t exactly an ordinary girl either, but that’s one of the games great mysteries so let’s not bother with that here.

Anyways, Dart and his companions end up journeying all over Endiness to try and save the world. There are quite a few good twists and turns along the way. Plus it has a really good battle system.

One of the only things that hasn’t been announced is Legend of Dragoon‘s price. Typically, PSone Classics cost between $4.99 and $9.99. Since Legend of Dragoon is an utterly fantastic game that was originally four discs long, I’m guessing Sony will list it for $9.99. It’s absolutely worth that price, so don’t get upset if it does end up going for that instead of $4.99 or $6.99.

I highly recommend downloading a copy. If enough interest is shown, maybe Sony will un-cancel the previously revealed Legend of Dragoon sequel or begin work on a new one. Even though it worked really well as a stand-alone adventure, it was so good that a sequel would have been greatly appreciated.
