Sega is racing it’s way to the 3DS, PS3, Vita, Xbox 360 and Windows again with Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed! As you can guess from this title, this is a direct follow up to Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, which was available on practically every platform ever.
As expected from a sequel, Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed will include both new levels, like the Dragon Canyon (Panzer Dragoon, and new characters like Vyse (Skies of Arcadia) and Gilius Thunderhead (Golden Axe). The biggest addition is alluded to in the title though. Now Sonic and his friends all drive vehicles that transform depending on the terrain. For example, if a track has a huge lake, then the vehicle will transform from a car into a boat. The terrain may even shift again, making Sonic’s vehicle fly off into the air as a plane. Gameplay mechanics have also been tweaked. You can avoid attacks from other players and it’s easier to power up with stunt driving.
Sega says we’ll see it before 2012 ends. Odds are, it’ll also make an appearance at E3 2012 in June. Perhaps then we’ll hear about mobile versions. It seems a bit odd that Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing would appear on both mobile phones and iOS devices and Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed wouldn’t.
