We’ve covered a few video game Kickstarters in the past, but this is the first time one has ever made me feel dirty. A company called Soda Pop Miniatures has managed to successfully fund a project called Tentacle Bento with plenty of time left on the Kickstarter clock. Soda Pop Miniatures was asking for $13,000, but the lovely citizens of the internet have thrown over $23,000 at this tantalizing card game.
That’s right, Tentacle Bento is a card game that involves tentacled aliens capturing students at an all girls school. Needless to say, it’s entirely up to an individual’s imagination as to what those aliens use those tentacles for. I’m guessing they don’t hold the book up while the girls study. There’s some depth to this card game, but I’m pretty sure most people who play it aren’t only attracted to it because of the tactics they can come up with.
What’s particularly interesting about this Kickstarter is the video used to promote it. Usually someone from the company makes a video that explains what the project is, why the team loves it so much and why they’re asking you to help fund the project. For Tentacle Bento, the video really just explains how to play the game. Even with its bad acting and downright creepy narrator, Soda Pop Miniatures still managed to sell out of just about every backer reward it offered.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you all because it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen on Kickstarter before. Go back it if you want. I can’t promise no one will judge you though.
