Shiny new gaming rigs

We’ll miss you Tony Blair. We’ll miss your charming accent and your ability to pronounce words correctly. We’ll miss the sense of class and refinement that you brought to the White House whenever you came to visit. Standing next to that inbred monkey of a president of ours, we almost dared to hope that things would be all right. Oh well.

Even though last Wednesday (June 20, 2007) marked the end of Blair’s term as Britain’s Prime Minister, Commodore Gaming wasn’t about to let the bloke go without throwing a huge LAN party in his honor. Okay, okay — the press event held in Soho probably had more to do with pushing Commodore’s shiny new gaming rigs than honoring Blair, but I bet more than a few of the gamers who took the machines through their paces on Wednesday were imagining the caricatured head of the Texas blue-blood prince sitting on the shoulders of the foes they blasted. And they were fantastically rendered foes at that.

These are pureblood gaming rigs. They’re fast. Fast enough to blow your mind and make you a sandwich at the same time. Here are just a few of the relevant nerdstats: Intel Core 2 Extreme quad-core CPU, two gigs of Corsair Dominator memory, custom cooling system from Arctic, a couple of 10k rpm hard disks in RAID 0 configuration, and a sweet-ass audio system from Creative.

You’ll have to pay out the nose, of course. At just under 3,000 Euros (a little over $4,000 US) these flashy, high-end gaming systems don’t come cheap. Still, when that beautiful C-kin CPU casing is sitting on your desk, emanating coolness for you and all of your jealous gamer friends to bask in, you’ll know it was worth it. Now where did my piggy bank go?
