The 3DS Circle Pad Pro is a cumbersome device. It’s that cradle-peripheral that you lay a 3DS in to provide an additional analog stick-circle pad. You know, for those four games that actually support the thing. It’s only available through GameStop stores and it’s a tad bulky. It turns out 3DS XL owners will be able to look forward to making their consoles unwieldy with an optional peripheral too, as Nintendo announced a new Circle Pad Pro designed for the slightly larger handheld.
The 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro seems to be identical to the original Circle Pad Pro. It will attach to the system in the same way, will still require a battery power source to run it and is completely optional. Pictures weren’t available from Famitsu, but the image of the original 3DS attached to a Circle Pad Pro should give you some idea of what to expect with the 3DS XL Circle Pad Pro.
In case you’re wondering which North American releases support this device, here’s the list.
- Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy
- Kid Icarus: Uprising
- Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
- Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater
- Resident Evil Revelations
So if you feel you need an extra analog stick for a whopping five games, you’ll be able to have one later in 2012.
