Gamertell Oblivioun Elder Scrolls cover Bethesda Softworks is announcing this morning (July 9, 2007) that it will be releasing a “Game of the Year” edition of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The GOTY version will include the full game plus the “Shivering Isles” and “Knights of the Nine” expansion packs.

The “Nights of Nine” expansion pack was originally available late March 2007 for the Xbox 360 and Windows releases, a year after the core game was released, and included in the PS3 version’s final release. No official word yet on the price of the GOTY edition but it is scheduled to be available September 2007.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is a huge role-playing game that will take dozen if not hundreds of ours to play through. It offers a core story line with set quests and tons of optional side quests. Actors including Patrick Stewart, Sean Bean, Terrance Stamp, and Lynda Carter all did voice work for the game.

Gamertell Elder Scrolls Game of the Year Oblivion Box Art Here is an excerpt from the review I wrote for CiN Weekly when the PS3 version was released:

Even though the game has a massive environment, it accommodates any player’s pace with both an instant travel option between key points and secret caves scattered among the many hills when taking the road less traveled. The game’s creatures essentially level up with your character, making every quest a worthwhile and challenging encounter instead of painstaking battles for meager rewards. As a somewhat unusual yet welcome feature of a RPG game, there are also periodic opportunities to completely reinvent your character without losing built-up experience points.

The game is damn fun no matter the system you get it for and the expansion packs add tens of hours of quests and other goodies.

UPDATE: (July 9, 2007, 4:50 p.m.) I just received the new box art, which I’ve included it in this post for your viewing pleasure.
