According to music blog Metal Injection, true-life guitar hero Slash (Velvet Revolver and Guns ‘N’ Roses) will be a playable character in Guitar Hero’s third installment. Players will be able to shred as Slash after beating every song and then facing the rock icon in a one-on-one duel.
The guitarist reportedly even got the full motion-capture treatment in the studio to ensure realism. The game itself is due out in Fall of 2007 for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles.
Neversoft and Activision are wise to take this approach in differentiating their title from newcomer Rock Band and, if it adds something significant to the gameplay, it’s a very cool idea. Either way, lets hope this turns out better than a certain other celebrity cameo in a music game – remember Michael Jackson’s appearance in Space Channel 5? No? Didn’t think so.
