For people who cannot visit E3 in person – which is 99.99% of the world – all the blogs and writing in the world cannot portray the experience as well as video. After all, it is insane (see, even I still try).
Cable channel G4 is trying to keep the E3 love alive with live broadcasts of the big three press events – Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft – a first for the Expo. In the past, you were lucky to get a slow web stream videos of one or two of the conferences a few hours later. G4 will also provide a live stream of the conferences on its web site.
Of course, with the new format, E3 won’t be nearly as exciting to watch on TV since it won’t be as loud and insane as the past. The G4 cast and crew will do all they can to zest up the otherwise quiet and subdued hallways of the hotel. There will surely be several game trailers (B-roll as they call it in the biz) and plenty of pre-recorded material as the hosts take frequent breaks, tired due to the many, many anchor style tosses they do to each other: “Now, here’s Morgan Webb, who will introduce Adam who will introduce Kevin who will say something short and snarky and introduce some obscure cast member in another hallway who will lead us into the next commercial break.”
