Games spanning multiple genres and platforms will be on-hand at the Atari booth (518 and 520) and include Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 (Wii, PS2), The Witcher (Games for Windows), Godzilla: Unleashed (Wii) and Jenga (Wii).
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Platform: Wii and Playstation 2
Genre: Fighting
Developer: NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. / Spike
Release Date: Holidays 2007
Dragon Ball Z’s Budokai Tenkaichi series is known for huge casts and authentic anime fighting (minus the huge dialogs and ‘dramatic’ buildups). Budokai Tenkaichi 3 features “over 150 playable characters, enhanced fighting techniques, beautifully refined effects and shading techniques, making each character’s effects more realistic, and over 30 battle stages.” Dragon Ball Z has seen more than 25 different games since May 2002, with over 10 million units sold worldwide.
The Witcher
Platform: PC
Genre: RPG
Developer: CD Projekt
Release Date: Fall 2007
The only thing I know about this game is the old Penny Arcade strip mocking the title. It is based on on the world created by best-selling Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels. Atari promises to provide a “fresh approach to traditional role-playing” with “an expansive, twisting plotline,” “individual decisions” which “drastically alter the outcome of the game,” and “fast-paced combat against a wide variety of foes.” Doesn’t sound like a fresh approach to me, but we’ll see what they deliver.
Godzilla: Unleashed
Platform: Wii and DS
Genre: Action
Developer: Pipeworks Software, Inc. and Santa Cruz Games
Release Date: Fall 2007
Godzilla is best described by the press release: “Godzilla: Unleashed offers fighting on a giant scale. The game stars the legendary Godzilla and a slew of the most renowned monsters of all-time. Gamers are challenged to ultimately save the planet from mayhem and destruction. Set in urban arenas, Godzilla: Unleashed’s interactive 3D cityscapes, big destructible buildings, soaring skyscrapers and towering alien formations provide the backdrop to epic worldwide destruction. Godzilla: Unleashed is slated for a fall release on the Wii and Nintendo DS.”
Jenga
Platform: Wii and DS
Genre: Family game
Developer: Atomic Planet
Release Date: Fall 2007
We’ve already announced Jenga, but Atari promises “a wealth of exciting new enhancements, power-ups and twists that are possible only in the videogame world.” We’ll see what they can do.
