Rock Band may be gearing up to try and cut the legs out from underneath Guitar Hero III, but the Activision phenomenon isn’t going to go down without a fight. Slash, legendary guitarist of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ fame, is going to be lending his considerable chops to the game’s soundtrack. He’ll also be appearing in a boss battle, a new feature in the game. The game will also feature the song “Welcome to the Jungle,” a famous rock anthem.
The controllers for the game will also be undergoing a little cosmetic surgery. Seasoned guitar maker Gibson has teamed up with Activision to give the guitars a sleek new look for each of the three platforms that will support the game. The color coded buttons will be replaced with much sexier black buttons, which makes sense when you think about it. No one has time to look at the fretboard when they play anyway. The Wii guitar even has a docking port for the Wiimote — response to this has been mixed but I think it looks pretty cool. I hope they do the same thing with a lightsaber and a Star Wars game.
Guitar Hero III will also feature the talents of The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Muse and Pearl Jam. Guitar Heroes III is slated for release Fall 2007.
