What is going on in the video game world? Did the companies get together and decide 2012 was the year of catching up? First, Metal Gear Solid 4, a four year old game, gets patched to add trophies to the game. Now Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, a two year old game, gets an add-on that brings a new character and online multiplayer to the game! It’s insanity, pure and simple.
The Scott Pilgrim vs. The World update comes in the form of the Online Multiplayer and Wallace Pack. For 400 Microsoft Points ($5), you get Wallace Wells as a playable character and the ability to play the game online with friends. That’s quite expensive, given the Knieves Chau DLC, which included Knieves as a playable character and the Battle Royale and Dodgeball modes, was 160 Microsoft Points ($2).
In fact, I’d say this add-on is a real rip-off. Online multiplayer is something that should have been included in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World when it launched. I mean, the game itself is 800 Microsoft Points ($10). In fact, I remember the PlayStation Store having a sale that featured a complete edition of this downloadable game, with the Knieves DLC, for $7.99. Doesn’t it seem ridiculous to charge $5, half the price of the full game, just for online multiplayer and one character? I think it is. But then, this is Ubisoft we’re talking about so I guess it isn’t too surprising.
Right now this add-on has only been confirmed for the Xbox 360. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is a multiplatform game, however, so we should see it on the PS3 as well. It’ll probably be on both online shops at the same time. If you’re okay with throwing your money away, you can grab this DLC from Xbox Live on August 19, 2012.
