We have a serious good news/bad news situation on our hands right now. The good news is, Sony got the fantastic Vita 1.80 firmware update out early! At 9:20pm CST, the new firmware was made available via direct download to the console. (It still isn’t available through the Sony website.) The bad news is, Sony will only have 9 PSOne Classics available to directly download to your Vitas after the PlayStation Store updates on August 28, 2012.

Yes, you heard that right. Sony promised us 100 compatible PSOne Classics and we’re getting a whopping nine downloads. Here’s the full list of what you can directly download to your Vita tomorrow night.

  • Arc the Lad
  • Cool Boarders 2
  • Final Fantasy VII
  • Hot Shots Golf 2
  • Jet Moto
  • Syphon Filter
  • Tomb Raider
  • Twisted Metal 2
  • Wild Arms

Sony claims that the others will be released via a gradual rollout. So instead of just letting people directly download all the PSOne Classics right away, we have to wait.

To compare, the European PlayStation Blog has a list of about 90 games that will be immediately available on European Vita PlayStation Store on August 29, 2012.

On the plus side, people with a PS3 and a Vita can transfer over games that aren’t part of the North American launch batch. If you have any of the games from the list that’s on the European site on your PS3, you can shift them over to your Vita. At least there’s that.

You know, you’d think it’d be impossible for Sony to screw up a Vita update people have been waiting months for, but then they go and prove that the company can!
