Valve’s experiment with a new Steam interface for large displays is now available for everyone to try. Big Picture mode can be activated by starting Steam and selecting the “big picture” option in the right-hand corner of the Steam client.Big Picture mode is best used when your computer is connected to a HDTV or HD monitor with a HDMI cable. Instead of using a mouse and keyboard to navigate around, you can use whatever controller you have handy. In my case, the Xbox 360 controller works perfectly.
Big Picture mode doesn’t provide you with any functionality your computer can’t already handle. Besides the new UI, Valve also created what it calls a first-person browser. It gets this name from a crosshair-like icon that acts as a mouse pointer.
Go ahead and try it out for PC. A Mac beta is coming soon.
