If you’re waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3, it may be smarter to save yourself some grief and just give up hope on the final entry in the series. Square Enix is going to milk this series for all it’s worth, and the proof is in its 2012 Tokyo Game Show announcement. Kingdom Hearts is coming to a console again, but it’s not the Kingdom Hearts you want. It’s Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix, a compilation of two PS2 games in HD for the PS3.

Definite details aren’t available about Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix. We just know it will contain HD remasters of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories. There will also be trophies for both games and cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days on the disc. The whole bundle will be out in 2013.

If case you’re wondering, there’s no way we’re not getting this. It’s Kingdom Hearts, so it’s definitely getting an eventual worldwide release. The question is, will people be willing to pay money for the the first two chronological releases in the series.

Also, I’m placing a bet now that this means we’ll see Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix before Kingdom Hearts 3. It’ll probably have HD versions of Kingdom Hearts 2 and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Just watch! We’ll probably even see a Vita port of Kingdom Hearts 3D before Kingdom Hearts 3!.

  1. How is this proof that Square Enix is milking the series? The series has been going on since PS2, and it’s been hard to get newer players into the series! This HD collection will allow the younger generation to get into the story! You’re just cynical.

    • Clearly you haven’t played Kingdom Hearts re:Coded and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

And Kingdom Hearts is one of Square Enix’s most profitable series. It’s probably the one property that doesn’t have to worry about an audience of new players.

Of course, I did have to play KH, KH Chain of Memories, the PS2 version of Chain of Memories, KH2, 358/2 Days, Birth By Sleep, Re:coded, and KH3D. So maybe I am a bit cynical.

  2. doesn’t anybody realize the team that is going to make KH3 is currently busy with Final Fantasy Versus XIII? the reason they are making all of these “filler games”, isnt because they are trying to milk the kingdom hearts series. its because this is better than leaving us high and dry until 2015 or later for KH3

  3. That’s just it though… they ARE leaving us in the dark! Final Fantasy Versus XIII has yet to have any real information released and it’s very very very very frustrating! Plus they also keep cranking out XIII sequels as well when they should be using their resources to get Versus XIII done and announce KH3!!! But they don’t! No game should take 7 years to make… ever!!! Nomura should be ASHAMED of what is happening.
