Let’s be brutally honest here. When it comes to video games featuring iconic video game characters, the collector’s editions of the games are going to be pricey. You can’t get around that. Even knowing it though, it’s still a little hard to cope with the fact that the Injustice: Gods Among Us Collector’s Edition of Warner Bros.’ PS3 and Xbox 360 fighting game will start at $99.99 when it’s released in April 2013. I say start, because I’m sure there will be some people who will buy it for that price and then jack it up even more on eBay because they can.
The thing is, the Injustice: Gods Among Us Collector’s Edition seems like it may be one of those situations where it just isn’t worth it. Sure, you’re getting a copy of the game and a foot tall statue of Batman and Wonder Woman posing beside Superman’s Fortress of Solitude and Last Son of Krypton escape pod. (That’s the statue above if you’re curious.) But, the statue isn’t as impressive as, say, the one included with Skyrim or Batman: Arkham City.
In addition, the other extras aren’t all that special either. The only in-game DLC buyers get are Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman The New 52 character skins that change their appearance in game. The other download is a copy of the Justice League: Doom movie and the first, collector’s edition issue of a new DC Comics series. As a comic fan, I’m not all that hyped up about any of these three bonuses. Maybe if we knew what comic was included, it’d be a little different. Wait, no. Nope. It wouldn’t make a difference.
Injustice: Gods Among Us itself, however, looks like it’s going to be a really awesome fighting game. That looks like it would definitely be something to watch come April 2013.
Also, no word yet on if the Wii U will also get an Injustice: Gods Among Us Collector’s Edition. The fighter is coming to that system as well in April, but I guess Warner Bros. is thinking Wii U owners won’t spend $99.99 on a special edition of the game.
