Virtual Boy one of Time’s 50 worst inventions
That’s right – out of all of the terrible inventions that mankind has birthed, Nintendo’s black sheep Virtual Boy has been named in the top 50. Time Magazine has placed the system in the company of such things as subprime mortgages (which were a large contributing factor to the current economic recession), Agent Orange and Crocs. Yikes!

Today is a good day for Mac gamers
Go ahead – mark it on your calendars. May 12th, 2010 is officially the first good day to be a Mac gamer since the olden days – maybe even since Marathon. Today, the Mac line of computers became a viable gaming platform, with the release of Steam (Valve’s ultra-successful digital distribution platform) for Mac OS.
EA to charge for online play
Uh-oh – it looks like EA has just crossed the line that we’ve all (frankly) been waiting for – a venerable shot across the bow for rental and used-game retailers. Starting with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, players who want to take their EA Sports titles online will have to enter the unique “Online Pass” code from the game box. If you’re renting or buying a used copy, you have to pony up an additional $10 for the pass. Here’s the bad news – each pass is game-specific – you can’t use the code you purchased on one game on another (so if you bought the code for, say, Madden, you are SOL if you try to use it on FIFA).
Kirby on Wii still a reality
Kirby fans, take heart. The long-in-development (and thoroughly mysterious) platformer that’s been talked about since the old Gamecube days is still slated for a Wii release. According to a recently released report that includes upcoming Wii launches, the pink puffball will have his day – spy the “Hoshi No Kirby” entry in the primary Nintendo launch schedule. We’re just not sure when.
Bungie jumps into bed with Activision
Halo developer Bungie, which is soon to launch Halo: Reach, has just signed a ten-year, multiplatform deal with mega publisher Activision Blizzard. This major news is coming hot off the heels of Activision’s issues with Infinity Ward (developers of the ultra successful Call of Duty series), and comes as something of a surprise to many gamers.
Rumor: GoldenEye is coming back
Some scuttlebutt courtesy of multiplayer, and worthy of a serious second look: GoldenEye, the famed N64 FPS that put console shooters on the map, may be getting a new lease on life. Activision has registered the domain name “GoldenEyeGame.com”.
Gizmodo blogger’s home raided over the “lost iPhone” story
It appears that things have truly hit the fan in an already high-drama story involving a tech blogger, a lost iPhone, and the California police. Last week, the story broke that an Apple engineer had lost his iPhone. Not just any iPhone – but a cleverly disguised prototype for the newest, as-yet-unannounced version. Gizmodo blogger Jason Chen got ahold of it and confirmed that underneath the case, some new magic was brewing. You can bet not everyone was happy with it.
